HAWKE'S BAY
CXHB ran its first series of six races, including the CX NZ National Championships, in the winter of 2012. A hard-core band of CX enthusiasts who set up the races, rode in the races, did race results and packed away the course - Andrew Barlow, Dan Warren, Ken MacKenzie, Carl Paton, Ivar Hopman, Gemma Newland and Helen MacKenzie held events for all-comers from balance bikes and kiddy-bike-trailers to hard-core enthusiasts at Chesterhope Bridge, HB Showgrounds, Black Barn Vineyards and Roys Hill Reserve.
Every year since then, CXHB has created interesting courses in a range of venues. You can expect to encounter grass, dirt, mud, pavement, road and gravel. Mostly you will ride your bike … but sometimes you will push, pull or carry it. Regardless of weather, CXers of all ages and experience come and play on the grass and in the mud from 9am on Sunday mornings.

OUR EVENTS
Cyclocross (CX) takes elements from both road and mountain bike racing and presents as a spectator friendly, fun short race, that all ages and skill levels can enjoy. Typically it is raced on an off road circuit, each lap takes about four to six minutes to complete. Riders complete several laps in each race. Cyclocross, mountain and e-bikes are all welcome, however e-bikes are not eligible for prizes.
Still a little unsure? ... There is something special about the camaraderie of cyclocross. Bring a friend along to provide a bit of moral support. Even better, bring the family ... our courses are usually almost entirely visible from one vantage spot so the family can watch you, and the kids can race too!
Cyclocross Hawkes bay holds a series of events through the winter that anyone can enter and enjoy. 2020 sees a series of six events, and each event offers the following options:
BALANCE BIKES / PARENT & CHILD FUN RIDE ... 9.50am START
The course is restricted to balance bikes and kids that need parents alongside them only.
FUTURE STARS KIDS AGE 7 AND UNDER ... 10.00am START
Five minutes around a child friendly circuit. Entry is Koha, this is a great way for your children to ride there bikes on a nice safe fun course and learn some great bike handling skills. Please no balance bikes or trailers in this race.
FUTURE STARS KIDS AGE 10 AND UNDER ... 10.10am START
10 minute race on a slightly longer kid friendly circuit. Great fun and entry is Koha.
CX20 AGE 13 AND UNDER ... 10.22am START
CX20 minute race on the full length circuit. Great for the youngster who isn't ready for the longer ride, or for those kids wanting to go a few more rounds.
CX30 OPEN ... 10.21am START
30 minutes. Open to riders of any ability, it's your choice how far you want to race.
CX45 OPEN ... 10.20am START
45 minutes. Open to riders of any ability, it's your choice how far you want to race.
